Grant Resources and Grant Writing

The San Antonio Area Foundation makes grants from our funds, with help from our donors, to nonprofit organizations improving the quality of life in Bexar County and the following surrounding counties: Frio, Atascosa, Karnes, Wilson, Guadalupe, Gonzales, Comal, Blanco, Kendall, Gillespie, Kerr, Bandera and Medina.

Impact San Antonio awards at least one $100,000 grant annually to non-profit organization(s). Grant applications are accepted in five focus areas: arts & culture; education; family; environment, recreation, & preservation; and health & wellness. Separate committees review and evaluate the applications to select finalists. The due diligence process includes site visits for a select few.

The Department for Culture & Creative Development (DCCD) advocates for the growth of the local creative industry by increasing awareness of the impact and value of arts and culture to the city. Its mission is to foster San Antonio’s creative community by supporting local arts organizations and individual artists. Helping to make San Antonio an exciting place to live and visit, DCCD develops and markets a wide range of programs and events.

DCCD is funded by the hotel occupancy tax and supported in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. The department's policies and procedures are advised by the San Antonio Arts Commission, whose members are appointed by City Council and the Mayor.

The department is comprised of four divisions: Arts Funding and SA2020, Public Art San Antonio, Strategic Initiatives, and the San Antonio Film Commission.

In alignment with the personal interests of the Halsells, the Foundation has supported the arts, educational enterprises from institutions of higher learning to after school programs, environment, conservation, faith, health and human services, biomedical sciences, research and many others in San Antonio and South Texas.
