  • Students who wish to become certified to teach in Texas must demonstrate both content area competence and knowledge of pedagogical/professional responsibilities.
  • To participate in clinical teaching through Texas A&M-San Antonio's Educator Preparation Program, students are required to pass their content area exam(s) prior to being assigned to a school.
  • Currently, students have two options for meeting the pedagogical and professional responsibilities assessment requirement. They can either take the TExES exam 160 or they can submit a completed edTPA portfolio; these can be done during or after clinical teaching.
  • For explanations of the different exam programs see the first link below. Open the second link to see the complete list of Texas educator certification exams available.

Prep Manuals - General Info

TExES Preparation Manuals Available for In-Library Use

  • Preview the library's collection of print TExES exam preparation materials currently housed in the Reference collection (in-library use only) or in Course Reserves (short-term checkout options) to help you decide if you want to purchase your own copies.
  • If using e-book preparation manuals, check for alignment by exam number with the specific exam you are taking. Some of the exams have been updated recently, but we may still have older versions of the e-book manuals showing up in library catalog search results because they are not easily suppressed or hidden.
