  • Students, faculty, and staff may submit different types of projects to be printed using the large format printer.
  • If printing for a research conference or similar event, patrons should verify printout size requirements before designing and submitting projects.
  • Examples include research poster presentations (48" x 36" and 24" x 36"), signs, and banners.
  • Projects should be submitted as PDF files.
  • The Innovation Lab offers different paper types, finishes, and price points to meet patrons' needs:
    • Presentation Matte
    • Premium Glossy
    • Photo Paper Pro Luster
  • Patrons are expected to follow the design and submission guidelines included on this site to ensure that their projects meet their expectations and are processed in a timely manner.
  • Pricing is based on linear feet and type of paper used. See the Library Innovation Lab Pricing document for full information about how costs are determined. After receiving a project submission, Innovation Lab staff will send the patron an invoice with the required payment information.
  • Patrons should double check spelling, capitalization, and image resolution for their project before submission. The Innovation Lab staff are not responsible for content mistakes in printouts that result from patron errors. See the design tips on this page for specific details about creating appropriately sized and formatted designs.

Sizing

Design Tips for Large Format Prints

  • Check with your instructor or the event organizer for specific project size requirements!
  • Common printout dimensions are 48" x 36" (Landscape) and 24" x 36" (Portrait) for research presentations on campus.
  • Set the project size first (or near the beginning) when creating your design. Most applications for poster and sign design will allow you adjust the size settings.
    • In Microsoft PowerPoint, click on Design in the top horizontal menu and then Slide Size. Under Slide Size, select Custom Slide Size and enter the Width and Height in inches. Choose the correct orientation: Landscape or Portrait.

Design --> Slide Size --> Custom Slide Size --> Set Width and Height in inches --> Choose Orientation

  • In Google Slides, the sizing can be set under File and then Page Set Up. In the Page Set Up dropdown menu, select Custom and enter the desired size in inches and click Apply.
  • In Canva, use the Design selection options and choose Custom Size. You can change the measure from px (pixels) to in (inches) before creating your layout. Name and save your project.
  • Check any images for the optimal printout size before printing.
    • One free option for conducting a check is Image Quality Check, Size and Aspect Ratio Tool. Upload individual images to see how large they can be printed without losing too much resolution.
    • Examine images in Adobe by zooming in. If the image is blocky when you zoom in, you should edit the picture before submitting it.
  • Name your file to include your last name and save it as a PDF before uploading it to the project submission form.
