  • Students, faculty, and staff may check out and use the button-maker.
  • Supplies are available for purchase through the Library Innovation Lab Transact store.
    • The minimal charge for a purchase is $1.00 (before tax). Supplies for buttons will not be sold individually. See the pricing document for full details.
  • To check out the button-maker, patrons must schedule a training time with Innovation Lab staff member Gideon Ramirez. At the end of the training, the button-maker may be checked out through the Information desk for 3 hours of in-library use. 

Instructions

 

Vevor 2.25" (58 mm) Button Maker Instructions

1. Prepare Your Materials

  • Cut your artwork to a 2.625" circle (slightly larger than the button size).
  • Gather the button parts:
    • Shell (metal front)
    • Mylar (clear plastic cover)
    • Pin back (plastic back with pin)

2. Load the Top Mold (Left Side)

  • Place the metal shell face-up in the mold.
  • Place your artwork centered on top of the shell.
  • Place the mylar on top of the artwork.

3. Rotate the Mold to the Right Side

  • Push the mold so the loaded side is under the press. 

4. Press the Top Mold

  • Pull the handle down firmly and smoothly, then release.

5. Load the Bottom Mold (Right Side)

  • Place the pin back face-down (pin side facing down) into the mold.

6. Rotate the Mold to the Left Side

  • Push the mold so the pin back is under the press.

7. Press the Bottom Mold

  • Pull the handle down again to finish the button.

8. Remove and Inspect

  • Take out your finished button and check for alignment and secure parts.
