ADVANCED SEARCH IN NEXIS UNI

Advantages to using Advanced Search:

  • Often the easiest and most efficient way to search

Disadvantages to using Advanced Search:

  • You may inadvertently exclude a document you want if you search too narrowly
  • To take full advantage of the search features, you must already know a little bit about what you want to retrieve

Using Advanced Search:

  • Search by terms, date, citation, or title
  • You can search everything, or limit by content type
  • Click on the "View all connectors and commands" link along the right hand side for search type, or check out the "General Search Tips" on the "Getting Started" page of this research guide
  • Important: you can either type your search terms directly into the main search box OR use the smaller more specific search boxes.  In order to add these search terms to the large search bar you must click on the "Add" button-- otherwise your terms will not be searched, even if you enter them in the search bar and press the red search button

FILTERING RESULTS IN ADVANCED SEARCH

If you make use of the many Advanced Search features, you will not even need to filter your results.  However if you wish:

  • Along the left-hand side of the page we can continue to narrow our results using the filter
  • You can also search your results by entering new search terms in the “Search within Results” box along the left-hand side of the page
