A Note About Terminology

Terms Describing Identity Development Models

When searching for identity development model resources you are likely to see three main terms used to describe these models

Cultural Identity Development Model (CID)
Racial/Cultural Identity Development Model (R/CID)
Ethnic Identity Development Model

Additionally, you will sometimes see a more specific cultural group named in the identity model term

Examples: Black Identity Development Model, "Minority" Identity Development Model

You could potentially use any or all of the various terms when doing a database keyword search.

You may end up using a term that is not your (or the demographic group's) preferred term to find resources because Library of Congress classification terms are not always aligned with current language usage.

Diversity Data Kids Organization
The Diversity Data Kids organization is housed within Brandeis University's Heller School for Social Policy and Management at the Institute for Child, Youth, and Family Policy. The organization provides policy equity assessment frameworks, the Child Opportunity Index (CIO), maps, and demographic datasets related to child wellbeing and access to resources.
Pew Hispanic Center
Founded in 2001, the Pew Hispanic Center is a nonpartisan research organization that seeks to improve understanding of the U.S. Hispanic population and to chronicle Latinos’ growing impact on the nation.

"The U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) requires federal agencies to use a minimum of two ethnicities in collecting and reporting data: Hispanic or Latino and Not Hispanic or Latino. OMB defines "Hispanic or Latino" as a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race."

Yearbook of Immigration Statistics (U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security)
"The Yearbook of Immigration Statistics is a compendium of tables that provides data on foreign nationals who, during a fiscal year, were granted lawful permanent residence (i.e., admitted as immigrants or became legal permanent residents), were admitted into the United States on a temporary basis (e.g., tourists, students, or workers), applied for asylum or refugee status, or were naturalized. The Yearbook also presents data on immigration enforcement actions, including alien apprehensions, removals, and returns."
